About Delta's Feral Friends & Sanctuary

Our Mission

Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, & Return (TNVR)

Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, & Return (TNVR) is described by Alley Cat Allies “as a program in which a feral/stray community cat is humanely trapped (with a humane trap), brought to a veterinarian clinic to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, ear-tipped (the universal sign that a community cat has been fixed and vaccinated), and then returned to its outdoor home where the community cat was originally trapped”.

Best Friends Animal Society describes TNVR as putting a stop to the endless numbers of kittens born outside who ultimately suffer. TNVR allows cats to have longer, healthier lives without producing litter after litter of kittens.

How Delta’s Feral Friends & Sanctuary Came to be

This is how we started. It was with Delta. His situation was dire and he wasn’t expected to live. And so it began…

Our founder lives across the street from a farmer who has barn cats. He did not believe in spaying or neutering. As the number of cats grew, health issues grew, and my neighbor started feeding some of the ferals in her backyard area. She asked for my help because I have 20 years of veterinary assistant experience.

Delta was trapped in my backyard area as my neighbor and I were trying to catch a few of the ferals who looked sick or injured. Delta looked awful! Sorry bud. He couldn’t open his eyes, was snotty, sneezing, congested, had wounds, and just looked miserable. He was MAD! Spitting, hissing, not happy at all with me.

Our amazing vet, Dr. Sullivan agreed to see him and see what all he needed. The plan was to get him healthy and release him back. Turns out Delta is FIV positive and in good conscience can not be returned since he can spread the disease. I was headed to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (BFAS) for my vacation, so for now, I decided to keep him in the kennel in the garage.

While at BFAS we decided that getting Delta a catio would be the next best step. So it was delivered and Aunt Jill and Uncle John helped me put it together

  • May 4, 2023: Delta also needed entropion surgery
  • May 19, 2023: and a good place to heal while also allowing me to keep an eye on him. I believed the catio would allow him to move about and get some exercise versus staying in the dog kennel. While Delta was recovering I put the next step of my plan into action! Thanks Best Friends Animal Sanctuary for being the inspiration!
  • While at BFAS I researched and bought a used shed! It was already wired for electricity and had some insulation and drywall already done. Bless animal lovers, because I got a great deal since the owner’s sister-in-law works in animal rescue and heard what I was doing with it!
  • April 26, 2023: The rest of April and early May had me tearing out the old stuff, painting, buying flooring, etc. Found a handyman to install the windows and help with the lofts! Hired a digger for electric, but Glenn Wood (a friend’s husband who is an electrician) was amazing and wired it for me. I’m sure he thinks I’m crazy for sure now. A really nice man lowered his quote for the catio/concrete. He too thought I was crazy.
  • May 15 – 25: Murphy picked up the fencing for me and I assisted him in putting it up and securing it. Stricks Fencing did the wire fence for the ‘roof’. And Mel Ferrell (Elect Painting) painted it for me. I have some really generous friends!

Last big piece of the renovation was the carport! Now they have protection from rain and sun when they go outside.

Move in Day was June 9, 2023!!
